Everyone’s played some version of Breakout before — paddle, ball, wall of bricks. It’s one of those game shapes that never really goes away, because the core loop is just good. I didn’t want to reinvent it. I wanted to give it enough new toys that the fifth run of a level still felt different from the first.

That became Brick Breaker: Neon.

The Core Loop, With More Going On#

Tap to launch the ball off the paddle, slide the paddle to keep it alive, clear every brick to finish the level. Nothing about that part changes. What changes is what falls out of the bricks while you’re doing it: stars for score and progress, a paddle-widening pickup, +3 balls or a full triple-ball split, a fireball that burns straight through a row instead of bouncing off it, a shield that saves a ball you were about to lose, slow motion for when the board gets chaotic, and the occasional bonus life.

Drops are weighted, not guaranteed — a clean, quiet clear and a screen full of fireballs and split balls on the same level can look completely different runs.

Levels That Don’t Run Out#

Neon Breaker ships with a curated, hand-built set of levels, then keeps going: once you clear the last hand-placed one, the level-select grid keeps extending with procedurally generated boards, so there’s always a next level instead of a wall marked “the end.”

Every cleared level earns up to 3 stars based on how clean the run was, shown right on the level card so you can see at a glance which ones you’ve mastered and which you barely scraped through.

A Life System That Runs On The Clock, Not On You#

Lose all 5 lives and instead of a paywall, you wait — the pool refills on a cooldown that gets shorter the fewer lives you’re missing (1, 3, 5, 7, 9 minutes on the way back to full). Don’t want to wait? A short rewarded ad hands you an extra life and you keep going. Offline time counts too: close the app for an hour and your lives have already regenerated by the time you’re back, no clock-watching required.

Personal Bests And A Global Leaderboard#

The leaderboard splits into two tabs — your own personal best per level, and a global board ranked against everyone else who’s played. Sign in with Google or Apple to put your name on it, or stay anonymous as a guest and link an account later without losing anything.

Ten Languages, One Build#

The interface auto-detects your device language on first launch, with English, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, and Russian all built in — switchable anytime from Settings.

Why I Built It This Way#

Breakout’s core loop doesn’t need fixing. What it needed, for me, was a reason to launch “just one more” ball: enough power-up variety that no two runs feel identical, a life system where a bad run doesn’t lock you out for the day, and levels that never actually run out so there’s always a next one to try.

Try It#
